Northeastern's University College was founded in 1960. With an open admissions policy, its mission was to educate adult students with previous work experience, part-time students working toward an undergraduate degree, and full-time students who had varied scheduling requirements. University College was renamed in 2003 to the School of Professional and Continuing Studies, and subsequently was renamed as the College of Professional Studies in 2008. CPS offers over 70 programs of study, many of which are offered through or in conjunction with the School of Education, the Lowell Institute School, the School Health Institute, or the World Languages Center.
