The Latin American Student Organization (LASO) was founded in 1988. It was originally known as the Puerto Rican Student Organization, but due to the increasingly growing diverse Latin American student population at Northeastern University, the organization's name was changed. Since its inception, LASO's goals are to promote a positive image of Latin American culture, to inspire, develop, and promote leadership within the membership, to improve the college experience for Northeastern University's Latin American students and the overall student body, and to contribute to the progress of the Latin American population beyond Northeastern University through various outreach programs.
